Register by May 1st to enter Patch Sprint prize drawing. Those who wait to register after May 1st might not receive T-shirt
April 20, 2005 - A special Patch Sprint committee voted almost unanimously to hold a May 2 drawing to determine the winner of a "significant and substantial" prize.  The prize is to be awarded to "a pre-registered participant or volunteer" at the Post-race party on May 28th.  You must register by May 1st to be eligible for the drawing.
The announcement came after only 2 days of sequestered deliberations by the committee.  It took just 4 rounds of balloting to reach the 2/3 majority necessary to pass such sweeping legislation.  Voting was reportedly "heated at times" amongst the 6-person "Patchal Conclave", a loose collection of misfits obsessed with all things Patch Sprint.  "What we have here is a historic event," said one conclave member who was glad to be relieved of her duties. "I need a beer."
Since the announcement yesterday, speculation has run rampant as to what the prize could possibly be.  Many speculate it is "just some cheap ploy to get people to register," while others feel the announcement was well-timed to coincide with the selection of Pope Benedict XVI.  One hopeful winner was overhead saying she was "46% certain the prize is a private audience with the new Pope."
					Pope Benedict XVI is German, and probably won't be at the Patch Sprint.
Pope or no Pope, it's bound to be one heck of a prize.  Patch Sprint organizers are also quick to point out that it is now "easier than ever" to pay for the event by using the online PayPal tool recently set up on the Patch Sprint website.  Registrants may pay with a credit card, and even make a separate donation to the Adirondack Scholarship Foundation by using the secure site.
Those who register by May 1st are also GUARANTEED to receive an official event T-shirt.  Those who don't register by the May 1st deadline may find themselves without a highly coveted limited edition event shirt.  "Because we have to order the shirts several weeks in advance, we can't be sure everyone who wants a shirt will get one unless they register by May 1st" says annual T-shirt designer Jim Kobak.  "That is all."
