25 Days Until Patch Sprint 2005!
ALL 2004 DIVISION CHAMPIONS WILL RETURN...
But Defending Their Titles Will Be Tough
WILLSBORO, May 2-- With less than four weeks remaining until Patch Sprint 2005, The field of racers and trekkers is beginning to take shape.  "We have 58 registered participants," said Race Director Sandra Solomon, appearing here today at a pre-event press conference.  "With our normal penchant for late registration, we are expecting over 80 when all is said and done." (SEE LIST of REGISTRANTS)
Among the entrants are the defending champions in each of the major contested divisions.  However, as 2-time winner Greg Henderson pointed out, "With shifts in divisions; the influx of some new faces; the return to form of some past champions; as well as the experience gained by some 2nd and 3rd year racers, every division will be up for grabs."  While official predictions are not due out for a few weeks, it is not hard to get a feel of what the competition will be like. REGISTERED (as of 5/2)

CLYDESDALE - 6
KINDER-SPRINT - 2

VOLUNTEERS - 11
FRIENDS / DONORS - 3
OPEN MALE: Jim Kobak is the defending champion and course record-holder, but in the biggest news of the off-season, Kobak pulled out of the racing, citing injuries and "the desire to trek with my wife."  In his stead, look for the "Janny" to go to 1997 and 2001 winner Jay Fiegl, who is enjoying an outstanding training and racing season. Others to watch:  Jason Metakis, Andrew Joelson and Mike Daley.

OPEN FEMALE: The Disney twins are back, and will face tremendous pressure from Sami Daley (who beat them in 2003), as well as newcomer Kate DurlacherUnkown Commodity:  Cara Gentry.

MEN'S MASTERS: 2004 winner Tim Singer returns, as does Tom Lynch, who took the title the two previous years.  If Lynch doesn't unseat Singer, then either George Disney or SATO may.
Dark Horse Picks:  Ed Bunk, Ken Herz

CLYDESDALE: In 2004, Phil Maher won this division by over an hour.  This time around, he'll be joined by good friend Ben Stanley.  In fact Stanley may not only win this division, but could challenge for the overall title.  Best Net Time:  Stanley, Ken Ryba or Josh Bornt.

KINDER-SPRINT: The Kid's fun-run up Pok-O was taken last year by Chad Canning, Joseph Zimmerman and Colden Mitchell.  Zimmerman will be back, but is likely to fall to his sister, Jenna.
Kid's to Look Out For:  Jackson Konowitz, Nora Canning, Hannah Stuart.

TREKKER: As everyone knows, this is not a race.  Last year's fastest trekker was Ed Bunk, who has switched to Master's for 2005.  Look for Kris Williams or Drew Canning to break tape first.
Long Shot Selection:  Jim Kobak
