| MEET THE PATCH SPRINTERS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Five Questions with..... Ken Ryba: Clydesdale | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| His steady pace is the envy of many. High school football lineman, science teacher and winter forty-sixer, Ken Ryba, 49, of Queensbury, NY ambles along the Patch Sprint course; not too fast, not too slow, never seeming to tire, always a great attitude. As part of the Clydesdale division - where each pound over 200 results in a net gain of one minute - Ryba has flourished, capturing second place in 2005. At his rate of improvement, a title could be had this year. As for being profiled, Ryba says, "Thank you for the honor of being selected to answer 'Five Questions' . I will do my best to answer them. However I find myself at a great disadvantage having to follow after the great answers offered up by Chad Canning. But I will do my best..." |

| 1. WHAT IS THE BEST PART ABOUT THE PATCH SPRINT?
The anticipation and the fantastic news coverage building up the hype that is the "Patch Sprint". I also really do enjoy the people and just being at Poko. 2. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE OF THE PATCH SPRINT? Not walking the "Sprint" with Kelly. I am lost without her. 3. WHAT IS YOUR TRAINING PROGRAM IN PREPARATION FOR THE RACE? I have to eat just enough food to find that oh so important equilibrium weight. Too many pounds and I slow down too much. Not enough and my time off is not enough. Its a very unexact science. Right now plus or minus 290lbs. seems to be the mark to shoot for. 4. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR 2006? Keeping twigs out of my shoes, and I would like to break four hours. 5. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO HAS NEVER BEEN TO THE PATCH SPRINT? Relax, hydrate, relax, enjoy the day, hydrate and come make some new friends, oh and do not get in front of me going downhill. Also stay off the pond, paddles are for pussies. |
