One week into registration for the 2014 Patch Sprint, 63 returning participants have signed up, with two newcomers also registered as volunteers, in hopes of getting into the race.
We expected this busy influx," stated registration coordinator Peter Joelson, "and we hope people get on board before the event fills up!"
Last year, the race and trek closed out - at 115 people - on March 15. This year, the date for event rookies to register is March 18, if spots remain, at which time the registration fee also rises.
While registration has been brisk, donations "have, so far, been a bit modest," said Patch Sprint organizer Tim Singer, director of the Adirondack Scholarship Foundation, the event's sole beneficiary. "We've brought in over two-thousand dollars, which is a great start, but only 32 of the 46 registered groups have donated. Hopefully the others will get on board." Singer added that race fees cover race expenses; donations come from the Adirondack Scholarship line on the registration form.
For the second consecutive year, top donors will receive prestigious race numbers:
In 2013, Mark Gibson wore #1 as the largest individual donor, while two teenagers - Tate Aronstein and Chris Brakey - each solicited over a dozen donors; both got to wear #46 for the race.

Willsboro, NY, January 12-- Yesterday morning, January 11 here in Willsboro, seemed oddly familiar. 47 degrees, and raining. Exactly the same conditions experienced last spring- May 25, 2013.
Yes, the weather can pull some funny tricks in the Adirondacks, as evidenced by last year’s Patch Sprint. The cold, wet conditions caused the lowest registered racer-to-finisher ratio in Patch history (68%). However, the day also featured a new course record, 2:01:43, set by first-time racer Jan Wellford.
What the 2014 event will bring – weather wise and time wise – is still over four months from being answered... but now is your chance to get in on the action:
Registration for the 2014 Patch Sprint begins at 12:00am Tuesday morning (January 14)! While the Memorial Day weekend gathering promises great racing, trekking, and fun, it is – first and foremost – a fundraiser. In 2013, 12-thousand dollars was raised for the Adirondack Scholarship Foundation, providing the opportunity for financially needy children to attend summer camp.
