For the 2015 Patch Sprint, race #1 will go to the participant (racer or trekker) who generates the highest total of donations for the Adirondack Scholarship Foundation.
To qualify, a participant may either make the highest donation, or have as many people as he or she can recruit donate on their behalf to add up to the highest amount. As of February 17, the highest donor amount is $250.
Prior to 2013, #1 was worn by the defending overall race champion "but as this is, first and foremost, a fund raiser, and secondly a race, we thought it more appropriate to honor the highest donor," said event co-founder Greg Henderson.
The contest for #1 will close on May 15.
For the 15th consecutive year, Patch Sprint veteran (and five-time world champion of the world) Jim Kobak has designed the annual event logo. Kobak's themes place a premium on originality, creativity and shock factor, always incorporating the four mountains of the Patch Sprint within the artwork.
The 2015 theme is Patch Sprint Warriors. "The Patch Sprint is a battle... an emotional, mental, physical, psychological, metaphorical, existential, sartorial, orificial, palatial, visceral, extraterrestrial battle.
Each of the four peaks represents a barbaric battle that racers must wage in the great war of the Patch Sprint.
"Patch Sprint Warriors must persevere!"
As for each of the figures within the picture, Kobak writes:
