![]() By all measure, it has been a particularly brutal winter in the greater metropolitan Long Pond region. a normal to slightly below-average amount of snowfall has been offset by ice, wind and relentlessly cold temperatures. As a result, 79 days into the winter season, there has yet to be a recorded winter Patch completion. One long-time participant made a recent unsuccessful attempt, reporting that "the ice was bad, but the deep snow in the areas where people haven't been was just awful! I was post-holing everywhere, before finally turning back halfway up Sugarloaf." Winter trekkers have until March 21 to report a successful attempt. The fastest completion for the season will be considered the 2014 winter Patch champion. Read more about the winter Patch HERE See past winter winners HERE
