The Race for #1

Race #1 will go to the highest donor
Donor Incentives in Place for 2013 Event

You could be the Number One Patch Sprinter in 2013!

A huge response is expected when Patch Sprint registration opens tomorrow night.  One year ago, the field was over half full by the end of January, and sold out March 18.

This year, event officials are not worried about participation numbers but, rather, increasing donations for the Adirondack Scholarship Foundation.  As a result, several incentives are in place for 2013:

The Race for #1:

The highest individual donor will have the honor of wearing race #1 for the Patch Sprint.  Traditionally, this distinction goes to the defending overall champion.
Three-time defending champ Cole Starkey is in total support of giving up his number, stating,  "The Patch Sprint is, first and foremost, a great module to raise money for the scholarship fund; I am fully behind the idea of auctioning the number."
Race #1 will be awarded to the individual who makes the highest donation, as of May 15, 2013.  There is no limit on the number of separate donations made.  For example, if Donor A gives $250, and Donor B follows with $300, Donor A can make a second pledge to lift his or her total higher.

Other considerations:  Should the highest donor not be a racer or trekker, they will still receive the token number to wear and/or keep....  The contest is for individual and/or family donors only (corporate, trust or matching gifts are exempt)... The winner will be the highest donor, who has paid, as of May 15, 2013.

Can someone solicit 46 sponsors?
Patch Sprint 46er!

In addition to number one, the always sought after Race #46 will also be available for auction.
#46 will go to the Patch Sprinter who can solicit the most number of sponsors on his or her behalf.
"All participants need to do," says event co-founder Greg Henderson, "is spread the word and let your friends and family know that you are racing- or trekking- for a great cause.  Give them the address of our registration page, or donation page (see below), and they will have the option to donate in your name."
Whoever solicits the most sponsors, as of May 15, will receive race #46.  "We are hoping that #1 and #46 will become badges of honor for each Patch Sprint," added Henderson.

Other donor incentives and prizes will be introduced throughout the spring.

"It's very important to know," said registration coordinator Tricia Woodward, "that when you register, your fee does NOT go towards any donation.  It is used to pay for race expenses, such as meals, aid supplies, T-shirts and more, and we barely break even at that.
"We are really counting on all participants to use the ADK Scholarship donation option when they register.  This has never been mandatory, but we usually have over 80 percent of the people give.  This year, we'd like the number to be closer to 100!"
